Lived experience Patient Engagement Consultant
Thank you for visiting TrueHeart International
I’m Daniel Newman, a patient engagement consultant, advocate, and speaker with lived experience of type 1 diabetes and kidney transplantation. I use my journey to bridge the gap between patients and healthcare organisations, ensuring that the patient perspective is embedded in research, policy, and practice.
I have been trusted by organisations, including The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE), NHS England, Diabetes UK, Roche and Boehringer Ingelheim contributing to advisory boards, national surveys, and working groups focused on improving health equity. As a patient speaker, I’ve shared insights at professional conferences and international events, helping clinical leaders and research teams understand the value of authentic patient engagement.
Beyond speaking, I facilitate patient panels and focus groups, guiding discussions that generate actionable insights and strengthen collaboration between patients and healthcare professionals. My consultancy also supports CROs and research organisations to design strategies that improve recruitment, retention, and patient trust in clinical trials.
At the core of my work is a belief in evidence-based hope. I support organisations to listen deeply, act meaningfully, and deliver outcomes that matter to the people they serve. By combining professional consultancy with lived experience, I provide unique, practical solutions that help healthcare systems reduce inequalities and build stronger patient partnerships.

I first met Daniel in 2024, at the Public Policy Projects' Diabetes Care Conference, where he participated in a workshop focused on empowering marginalised communities through dialogue and education. Daniel has exceptional public speaking skills, his storytelling is engaging, and he has a natural ability to highlight key messages with impact. In 2025, Daniel returned to Public Policy Projects' Diabetes Care Conference as a panellist for a discussion on diabetes and technology. His insights on the critical role patients play in the development of new technologies left a deep impression on the audience. He brings both inspiration and substance to every conversation. Beyond his contributions as a speaker, it’s a pleasure to work with Daniel. He is approachable, supportive, and always open to sharing his knowledge. I truly value being able to reach out to him for guidance on diabetes-related topics.

Working with Daniel as part of a team of people with lived experience on an Advisory Group for developing the National Diabetes Experience Survey was a career highlight. Daniel’s approach is thoughtful, open and constructive. In addition to his personal contributions, Daniel had an ability to encourage other partners and increase their confidence to have their voice heard, which resulted in an actively engaged group who positively impacted the delivery and outcomes of the programme.
